🏥 Registering at Salters Medical Practice

To register as a permanent patient, you (or someone on your behalf) can either:

  • Register online via the practice’s website (click here).
  • Visit the surgery in person

📄 Documents Required

You’ll need to provide two forms of ID:

  1. Photo ID – e.g., passport or driving licence
  2. Proof of address in Droitwich – e.g., utility bill, bank statement, or tenancy agreement

If you’re unable to provide these documents, speak to the Receptionist for assistance.

📍 Catchment Area

  • You must live within the practice’s catchment area to register.
  • If you move out of the area, you’ll need to register with a new GP practice closer to your new address.

👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ Choosing a Doctor

  • GPs do not have individual patient lists.
  • You can therefore see any doctor at the practice.
  • You may request a male or female doctor if you prefer.

🕒 Temporary Registration Overview

If you’re unwell while away from home or not registered with a GP but need to see one:

After 14 days, you must register as a temporary or permanent patient.

You can receive emergency treatment for up to 14 days.

📅 Temporary Patient Registration

  • You can be registered as a temporary patient for up to 3 months.
  • This allows you to:
    • Be seen by a local GP
    • Still remain registered with your permanent GP
  • After 3 months, you must:
    • Re-register as a temporary patient, or
    • Register permanently with the local practice
  • After 6 months, it’s expected that you:
    • Register permanently, or
    • Return to your original GP

📝 How to Register Temporarily

  • Contact the local GP practice you wish to use.
  • Practices are not required to accept temporary patients, but:
    • They must provide emergency treatment if needed.
  • You cannot register temporarily at a practice in the same area where you’re already registered.

🌍 Overseas Patients & NHS Charges

  • If you’re from a country without a reciprocal healthcare agreement with the UK:
    • You may be charged privately for treatment at the practice.
  • To find out if charges apply to you, it’s best to contact the surgery directly.

🎓 Training at Salters Medical Practice

Salters is a well-established training practice, which means:

Doctors in training (often called GP registrars) join the practice for 6 to 12 months.

These doctors are:

Nearing the end of their training

Have completed:

18+ months in GP-relevant training

5+ years at medical school

2 years in hospital settings

🩺 Supervision & Quality of Care

The level of supervision is tailored to the doctor’s experience and competence.

These doctors are closely supervised by experienced GP partners and trainers.

Supervisors are specially trained to support and assess trainee doctors.

🎥 Video Consultations with Trainee Doctors

  • Trainee GPs may occasionally ask to record your consultation for training purposes.
  • Your written consent is required:
    • Before the consultation begins
    • After the consultation ends
  • You are completely free to decline—there is no obligation to agree.

🔒 Privacy & Safety

  • No intimate examinations (involving undressing) will be recorded.
  • All video recordings are:
    • Used only for training and review
    • Destroyed after being reviewed with the supervising trainer

📞 Telephone Consultations

  • Calls to and from the surgery may be recorded for:
    • Training
    • Monitoring purposes
  • If you’re not comfortable with your call being recorded:
    • Please inform the receptionist or clinician at the start of the conversation.
